My name is Uri and I’m 40 years old head chef with 20 years of experience. I have been a compulsive gambler last three years. If you’ve heard of a famous spoon bender Uri Keller, it’s not me!

Just recently I hit a rock bottom: I admitted to myself that I have a gambling problem and a debt that I can’t return. For the first time, in a very long time, I wanted to put an end to this nightmare. I have woken up, and now I despise gambling industry and the ways these companies are ruining people’s lives.

I think the problem is not that problem gamblers are not offered help or solution, but addicts like me are not used to asking for help or admitting that we have a problem. Seeking help has been the biggest turning point in my life. When I realized I didn’t have to deal with this addiction alone, it got so much easier.

I know that it’s gonna be a bumpy ride, but I believe this story will have a happy ending. I would like to share my journey to recovery, because I hope my story can help you. Maybe you are a gambler yourself and don’t know how to stop, maybe your partner is going through this addiction, or you are just curious to read how someone’s life is. Whatever may be the reason, I am glad you are here.

In my blog posts, I want to speak more about things that don’t get spoken about often enough. For example, I want to talk about how the real victims of gambling addiction are not us, the gamblers, but our partners and families. I will tell you the truth about how it all started, how I told my fiancé I have a gambling problem, how she reacted, if we broke up, if I went for the therapy and what helped me. I will share interviews with psychologists and other gamblers too.

I would also like you to share your story and thoughts too, which you can do in the Comments section below every story I post. Let’s go through the journey to recovery together!

You can follow the updates of my journey every Friday, when I will be uploading new “episode” of my journey to recovery.
